My son is 10 and has had trouble with his sinuses since age 4.
He has had two surgeries for sinus, one was to remove a large polyp. that was in January, since than he has had 2 more bouts with polyps. always on some type of meds.
my doc says test for CF.
when he was younger he had bronchitis all the time and pneumonnia a couple times. ear infections galore
when he was younger he had severe diarehia that went to horrible constipation and we still deal with it.
He goes through bouts of what we call his cough, than it goes away.
We were told he has asthma but only when he is sick does it flare up
he has had scarlet fever
he has had some type of psorisis that you get with step.
He is healthy but not healthy.

can someone with CF have it but not real strong
I am just confused on what I read, all points to lung problems. He used to be a wheezer but I dont hear it as much.
any insight would be great. I feel like I am going in circles.

CF can present itself in various ways. There is a CFer who now is a Mom & most of her issues had only been sinuses.

GIven his history it wouldnt hurt anything to have testing for CF. If it turns out to be then you have an answer & can get the proper treatment he so very much needs.

Many times they start with a sweat test. I am guessing because its the cheaper way out. I would push for a full genetic testing.

You should feel fortunate that the doctor is suggesting it. Many people have had more classic symptoms for much longer & had to fight tooth & nail to get the doctor to order testing.

If you have any other ?? let us know & please update us!

Good Luck!

Yes it is possible to have CF and not have severe symptoms and or lung problems.

Yes, it is a good thing that your doctor is doing the sweat test - but you need to follow up on it and make sure of what the number is if they tell you it is negative --many many people on here have normal sweat test numbers (under 40) but go on to get genetic testing and find out that they do have CF.

If you do go on to get genetic testing be sure to ask for FULL testing - there are currently 1,541 genes to look for -- very often doctors will only order a test to include 98 or less -- in my opinion this is an incredible waste of time and effort as you are missing looking for well over 1,400 genes -- how can they even say they have looked??? It boggles my mind.

Also, my blog page has more details about my kids and their symptoms, as well as the "misdiagnosis" of my daughter at age 5 -- we were told she had "asthma with productive cough" because she has a normal sweat test and "she was too healthy to have CF"
