Our son had his g tube at 8 months of age and he weighed about 12 lbs. at the time. He was gaining, but very little. We had tried concentrating his formula to very high calorie, but that is about the only "food" type of strategy we tried. He just really would not eat enough and he was not even coming close to being on the growth curve ( I think he had actually fallen off of "his" curve), so that is when they suggested we do the g tube. He is pancreatic insufficient but I don't know the exact values from his stool samples. Hope that helps.

We did not have the fecal elastase test, he had one when he was younger but I'm not sure the numbers. Our son had fallen off the growth chart,he was 13lbs before he went in for the feeding tube which is what he had been the week before that and wasn't gaining the ounce a day babies his age are supposed to. They had suggested it that first week but we didn't want to,when we went back and he hadn't gained we decided it was time. We had tried concentrating his formula but it didn't really help plus they don't recommend that as it decreases the water and can cause dehydration. We didn't really try nuch else as we were advised against it. He wasn't drinking the number of ounces he needed so he wasn't getting the calories and his intake was actually going down. The tube is the only way he can get what he needs and I am actually glad we did it, it also helps on days he doesn't want to eat because we can boluse it into his tube.
Hope this helps.
