I am the mum of a 10 months old boy w/ CF. He is my first baby and I don't have no one in USA to help me with simple questions. I have no idea what is normal, what is CF related, what is good...bad...etc. Some weeks ago my husband got a cold...some days later my baby and I were sorta sick too. we had no idea if we should take him to the ped or wait...after 4 days w/ the cold he was really congested so we decide to go to the ped who gave us some antbiotics and orapred. My son never had a fever, just running nose and I guess I saw some mucus in his mouth when he had coughed. he always cough, but it seemed like he was coughing more than usual, he didn't look sick at all, playing all day long and eating a lot. he got better in 2 days and now he is great. the question is...it was really necessary to take him the ped? did the medicine he put my son on make any diference? I am sure he would have gotten better even without it. what to do the next time it happens?valps: sorry for my english, hope u r able to undestand me

Val, The best advice I got when my daughter was diagnosed with Cf was always be cautious. I think you did the right thing! First you should call the ped and have them see the baby. If what they do doesn't work, call the CF center. They are there to help you figure out what is going on. If it seems to be a sudden problem ( like they child is suddenly making a lot of noise whe he breathes) I would just call the CF center. The cold was probably a head cold but the antibiotics probably helped to keep it from becoming a lung infection. You did the right thing. There is another, more active group for parents at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cfparents if you are interested in posting and probably getting more answers, quickly.Andrea Mom of Rachel, 5 with CfCheck out our group at http://groups.msn.com/teamracheljane

Val,Lets just say that my ped. and the cf clinic have MY phone number memorized because of how often they have to return my phone calls. They always tell me that if there is anything outside of what Mylee does everyday call them. Mylee is a non-cougher...so if she coughs for more than two days...we call. If I just get freaky and need reassurance...I call. Better safe (or paranoid ) than sorry. However, I don't know where YOU live, but where I live the weather has been crazy, warm days cool nights. My son who does not have CF has regular bouts of Croup (wheezy breathing, productive sounding coughs, gunky nose...) and they consistently treat him with an antibiotic and orapred. Remember that the orapred simply opens the air way to help breathing become easier.Good luck. And when in doubt call...that's what they are there for (and what you pay them the big bucks for )Christiemommy to twins Malachi wo cf and Mylee wcf
