Hello,I am a 27 yr old Irish girl with C.F who wants to move here this year to be with my b/f.I have been looking around and asking questions about the health care and the health insurancefor C.F sufferers. It seems so difficult and hard not to mention expensive to get the proper care and benefits.I was wondering if there are special insurers that deal with long term illness such as C.F? If there is anybody who can give me any kind of info.....names of insurance companies...kind of benefits......I would be forever greatful.Thank You and take care

I currently have an HMO plan with Blue Cross Blue Shield under their portability coverage. In order to qualify, you must be on COBRA or off it for less than and no more than 63 days to qualify. The upside of portability insurance, is that no insurance company who offers it can refuse one coverage regardless of their pre-exisiting condition (as long as you meet their COBRA qualifications). As well, you can keep it for life if you so choose or until you find an employer with adequate healthcare benefits that meet the needs of one with CF and in turn is cost effective.The downside, is that you pay high costs. I currently pay $602 a month. However, this is much better than $3000 or $4000 a month without insurance. I receive my coverage in Arizona....Hope this helps a little.Sean/26/male with CF

Sean,Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I am very greatful and will look into it. I have just one question what is COBRA. Is it a type of medication? I have never heard of this. Maybe I know it under a different name.Thanks Again Anna 27 w/cf

Anna, (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) - In essence it is a health benefit provision passed in 1986 allowing terminated employees or those who lose coverage because of reduced work hours may be able to buy group coverage for themselves and their families for limited periods of time.Qualifications necessary to apply for portability insurance with an insurance company who supplies it:1. Have at least 18 months of prior health insurance or COBRA coverage2. Not be covered under any other health insurance and or be eligible for any other type of insurance (if your married and your spouse can cover you, or your job offers healthcare-no matter how crummy)3. You must not have had a break in COBRA or prior Health coverage that lasted more than 63 days.Hope this is somewhat helpful... For further info, going to the Blue Cross Blue Shield website: Arizona's website is: www.bcbsaz.com Sean/26m with CF

Sean,So COBRA is not medication then!!! Thanks again for all the info. I really really am greatful. I think the best thing I can do is call the insurance companies themselves. After reading your message, I went onto their website...Blue Cross Blue Shield and there was so much info. I didn`t realise that there were so many different types of coverage. I was overwhemled. But I will keep on looking.Sean thanks againAnna

Health insurance doesn't have to be so costly anymore! After paying an
arm and a leg for HMOs with the 20/80 deductible, I've
shopped around to for great pricing for health insurance.

That's where I bumped into this site:
<http://www.insurance-quote-free.com>

I've never seen such fast results. I am so happy with the service, I am
recommending all who are in need of health insurance or maybe paying
too much to visit the link above.

We have a great HMO that is not 80/20 plan. We only have medication & hospitalization deductibles (10/20/40 for meds and 100.00 hospitalization)
