Hearing loss

Last year Graycie had a hearing test because her speach is so delayed. The test came back with her having hearing loss and was being watched by the ENT's. She had tubes put in her ears because of so many infections a few months ago. So last week she goes in again for another hearing test and still has hearing loss, she is scheduled for a specialist team at Nationwide Childrens Hosptial in a couple weeks. My question is has anyone suffered hearing loss as a result of TPN and antibiotic? I know that TPN and Vanco can cause hearing loss as well as infections but I would like to find anyone who has this problem. What did they do? Will surgery help? She has speech therapy but how do they know how much hearing she has lost? It seems to me she can hear. When you talk to her she understands. She can say around 20 words. Is this test accurate? I just need answers...thanks so much.

My daughter has Auditory Neuropathy and mild hearing loss... I dont think anybody knows what caused it... I wonder if it could have been because of the antibiotics she was on a few weeks before she got sick. That would be a good question to speak with her doctors about i guess.

My daughter has hearing loss due to many rounds of vanco while she was on TPN. Her loss is mild. She has been in speech since she was 3 (is 6 now) and is doing great. You actually have a very hard time telling that she has a loss at all.

Graycie had another hearing test last week, it did show hearing loss but as far as they can tell it is mild. They said when she is 3 they will do another test that should be able to be more accurate. She is in speech therapy and is talking alittle more. She doesn't cooporate well in the speech therapy, she has a mind of her own and won't repeat words that you want her to try. She later will say the words but on her own time and without prompting. Whats funny is that she will sing alot but when you want her to say something she clams up. LOL!
