My PICC has been hurting all day. I called my nurse at the home infusion company and she said to go to the ER. So I did. They did a chest xray to check the placement. That was fine. There are no signs of infection, no clotting. They said my chewt xray showed that I have an upper resperatory infection. Ya think!? That's why I have the PICC!!!! So I got a scrip for vicodin and need to have another chest xray if things don't improve in a day or two. So, any tips for this? Does heat or ice help? Or should I just jack myself up on the vicodin and call it good?

At the insertion site? In your heart?Your whole arm? Chest? If it is hurting your heart, go back! They can pull it out a bit and see if that gives you some relief. I have had piccs that looked "fine" in an xray, but still needed to be moved out a bit. Depending on where it is placed in you arm, it can move a bit when you move your arm around, and that movement may not show up on a still xray.

If it is your insertion site, or your arm, then yes, take the vicodin .
