Awww hugs to all of you! I read what all of you go through and you give me strength to carry on as well. I think of those who are waiting for lungs or are fighting yet another infection, how all of you tough it out too.
HairGirl, wow, you were truly nuked. The docs wanted to give more to me, only problem is that I am allergic to so many antibiotics....Bactrim, Cipro, Levaquin, Meropenem and Vanco to name a few. Infectious disease docs always scratch their heads....all of the "good" antibiotics to fight this damned bug can't be used so they have to be creative. My cepacia is completely sensitive to Cipro and Meropenem most times except this time around, I think it was intermediate (don't quote me <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">)....bites that they can't use those antibiotics because of severe allergies. They have considered desensitization, I think they will go that route if my cepacia becomes so resistant that there is no other options. The one time I was scared senseless is when my cultures showed that I was pan resistant, nothing was sensitive. I believe I was on IV's for two months that time. The next time I was cultured, I was sensitive to Ceftaz and Meropenem (then I reacted to meropenem 6 weeks into my treatment) and treatment was stopped to give my body a break. I agree, I think the minocycline made a difference this time around and I felt better quicker (along with the other cocktails)
You have been through such a rough time...with intubation and multiple infections, I pray that you stay off the IV's for awhile this time. I live on a vent all of the time (not CF related), which makes me a germ magnet. I know it has exacerbated my infections and their frequency. Bites, but I have to keep going and doing the best I can and remain a fighter. CF can kiss my butt! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
Lilith, so sorry you have been having problems with the bugs too...I hope this year is a better one for you too!
