i got the malabsorption information from The AAP's handbook called "Your Baby's First Year" on pages 434-435. The way I understand it, it talks about a virus or bacterial infection, but it also states, "malabsorption commonly occurs in a normal baby for a day or two. it rarely lasts much longer. however, if two or more of the following signs or symptoms PERSIST, notify your pediatrician." it also states that malabsorption can be normal for some babies who may just consume more food to make up for nutrients that they are losing. some have no discomfort or damage and malabsorption in these cases is no cause for concern. IMO, i think that anyone can malabsorb (even without an infection). there is a lot of fat in breastmilk and if your ds is also eating things like the guacomole...it may be no big deal if it was an oily poop. i won't go into any details, but i ate way too much mcdonalds the other day and i experienced the perfect, textbook CF poop.....and i do NOT have CF! LOL.
I hope you get a good report from the doctor tomorrow! GOOD LUCK!
