Hi to all,

I have another question about pro-biotics. I mentioned i was going to start my daughter on them and i have. Now her stool motions have changed
ie:from 3-4 poos a day to 6-7poos a day.
I just need to know if this is normal with taking the pro-biotics.She only has 1/4tsp a day which is a minimal dose.
Can someone please HELP!

Thanks

I recently put my 4 year old on probioticcs and haven't noticed an increase in bowel actions. Has anything else changed in her diet lately such as increased appettite?

There are some medications which can interfere with probitics so you may want to ask your doctor if anything she is already taking might cause the probiotics to have an adverse effect.

You can also check her medications on the following web site and it will tell you if there are any known adverse effect from the probiotics being used with particular meds.

With children though I think it's always best that if something doesn't seem quite right then check with a "good" doctor (I emphasise the word good because some really are a waste of space - or should I say an expensive waste of space).

I think it depends on what a person eats and how they frequent the bathroom. IF her bowel movements appear normal than do not worry. She is probably eating more. A probiotic given in small doses cannot create more bowel movements. Is her stomach flatter? Going more could be a good thing. Are you giving her any other vitamins or increased them? Taking too much magesium can create this what you are describing. If you are worried write down what she eats and what time and compare this to an overall week average. I would also include if she is exercising more as this can help with elimination.

I like the brand Jarrow the best and many health care practioners say it is the best for years

Hey,

I take probiotics every day. And increased when I'm sick. I've never experienced that many bowel movements in one day, except if I had diahrea. Check and see how the stools look. If they're loose, or oily she might not be digesting, and it's not neccesarily related to the probiotics.

I've noticed the probiotics make me regular. If I eat a meal, I have a normal stool within an hour or so. If she's eating alot more, she might just be emptying her bowel more regularly.

Thanks for your replies.
I havn't changed anything in her diet, and she has actually had a bit of a decrease in her appetite. Which seems odd, as she is a good eater.
Her stools look normal most of the time, but on the occasion they look stringy and sometimes frothy.

Does anyone know if thats a normal and why that might happen?

As for her meds, she is only on 5mls of Flopen a day, 1/2 cap of Vitabdeck 3 times a week and 1/4 tsp a day of pro-biotics(cyto-bifidus).

I think i might have to ask her peadiatrican(not sure if thats spelt right)

If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

Thank Heaps
