Please, for the sake of your health and your baby just try to stay calm. I know that's easier said than done most of the time. You have done yourself a lot of good by coming here to start! I hope that you find a wealth of support and information here.

There are a couple things you mentioned that I want to clarify for you, it may only be a small comfort but anything helps right? CF males do ejaculate, there is just usually little to no sperm in it. And he CAN have biological children! See this website: http://www.cysticfibrosismaleinfertility.com this is from Mark and Julie. Julie posts a lot on these boards. Her husband Mark has CF and last year they had the most beautiful triplets!! And they ARE biologically Mark's children.

There have also been major advancements in treating CF. When I was a child I was told that I would be lucky to graduate high school. I am almost 26 now and I have NEVER been hospitalized for my CF.

ditto to what all the others have said + don't get too wrapped up into the median age thing.... there are many people on this site and other sites who are well into their 50's, 60's and 70's. That 37 year old thing is not "average" or "expectancy" it is median... it's a statistical number.

Oh honey I wish I could give you a hug. You need one. I hope you have family support. I can't believe the way the news was delivered to you. In the first nurse's defense, she probably thought the docs had already informed you. It was wrong and heartless for them to not tell you right away. Also, get yourself seen by your OB! You can't be any good to your child if you are not well yourself.

Okay, now you know. Now you can treat your baby accordingly. I know you thought you had your bases covered, but something slipped through the cracks. All you can do now is concentrate on moving forward. You mentioned you knew you were a CF carrier. I can only assume, but do you already have someone in your family with the disease? I ask, because I want to make sure you understand the need for that person to keep their distance from your baby. You don't want them sharing bugs with your child.

Try to take this all one step at a time. I know it's devastating news. I've been given that news. It was like someone punched me in the stomach! Once I caught my breath, I started learning all I could. Be careful though; a lot of info is outdated. Don't put too much stock in that median age thing either. Cf presents it'self differently in each person. You need to be sure to enjoy your baby too. Don't forget to look at how beautiful he is. I wish you the best.
