Hi

My older children were on Viokase. I didnt think they still made it! The best way to give your child the Viokase is: mix it up in a spoon or small cup with some baby fruit gel or apple sauce (buy ready made apple sauce made for dressing on ham etc., because it's sweeter and finer then baby food apple).

My kids didnt mind it, and they had it mixed with water.

The main thing to consider is DONT ever mix it with food! It will start digesting the food and taste like vomit (know that from experience!).

Having said that, Viokase is not a good digestive enzyme. The reason for that is because it is in powder form and does not last the way other newer enzymes do. We went onto Pancrease originally, and then Creon both of which are in capsule form.

The best thing about the above enzymes (there are others also), is that the powder has been coated and placed into the capsules as very small spheres. With young children the spheres are emptied into apple sauce or gel etc (because they are acid based, and with Viokase, dont mix with dairy etc., the apple holds the digestive value longer), and spooned into the children's mouth as they eat. When they are older they take the capsule.

I would recommend you ask your doctor for Pancrease (not sure if they're still making) or Creon (I think Creon is better, the capsules are a lot smaller and easier for the kids to swallow), there is another too, but my children havent used it. Get rid of that Viokase! Yuck! <img src="">

PS just re read your post, if your child doesnt like the sauce...did you try a sweet one? Try something else similar, but not dairy etc based. The acid will hold the enzyme. It is also true that Viokase can cause severe napy burn, becasue it doesnt work as well as others.
