Help, Husband might have CF

You really do want to get to a CFF center for it - it will only cause more confusion and delay if you have one done anywhere else.

And, no, the ER is not a place I would recommend doing it - if it is even available .... it is not the type of test that is usually administered to get a "emergency" type related answer to...(unless we are talking about a perforated bowel in a newborn or something like that) nobody is going to order it done through the ER... they might recommend one be done, but without an emergency situation/presentation I'm sure most ER docs would just say that a specialist will need to be seen.

The internist might be able to "order" the test, and if the lab that he sends you to happens to be a CFF lab that would be just fine. But chances are you will need to consult with a pulmonologist or a GI doc who work within a certified center first.

I was diagnosed at age 36. My symptoms are milder than what you are describing so it is very possible he could be diagnosed as an adult. My medical insurance covered my testing. There are quite a few people on this site who were diagnosed in adulthood.

He needs to be seen at a CF clinic. If medical insurance/payment is an issue, just call the clinic and see if they can offer any advice on how to get the blood test. Some states have programs to help pay medical expenses for people with CF, so that is something you can try looking into. I've never used it but I saw it mentioned in a discussion on this site. You could also try calling Ambry Genetics to see if they can offer any advice on how you could pay for it.
