You really do want to get to a CFF center for it - it will only cause more confusion and delay if you have one done anywhere else.
And, no, the ER is not a place I would recommend doing it - if it is even available .... it is not the type of test that is usually administered to get a "emergency" type related answer to...(unless we are talking about a perforated bowel in a newborn or something like that) nobody is going to order it done through the ER... they might recommend one be done, but without an emergency situation/presentation I'm sure most ER docs would just say that a specialist will need to be seen.
The internist might be able to "order" the test, and if the lab that he sends you to happens to be a CFF lab that would be just fine. But chances are you will need to consult with a pulmonologist or a GI doc who work within a certified center first.
