I have a double PICC line in.. one of my lines hardly flushes at all and gives NO blood return, the other one give a good blood return but flushes sluggishly..

I know if it clots I can go to the hospital and get TPA administered..I am not sure what I can do at home.. I gave extra heparin in my line, but still no results..

Anyone have any idea what I can do to get the one line flowing good again?

Once I get it flowing again, I will flush it several times a day .. to keep it going..

Thanks for any help?

Couple of things my home nurse told me : 1) Try to flush with a little extra saline when it starts acting sluggish and 2) Try to flush with shorter faster pushes instead of one long slow one, if that makes sense - that way , it might knock the clut out. Another thing you can do is try taking a couple of asprin to see if that helps thin whatever it is out of there.

I hope this helps!

Have the caps on the end of the PICC line been changed? The ones Maggie had on the end of hers were called claves, they are blue. Maggie's PICC line had stopped flushing and they needed to be changed, they wear out after being accessed so many times. Changed em and the PICC flushed great. Hope this makes sense.

My nurse told me to move my arm in all weird places because there may be a kink in it. It actually worked the first time. I also was told to do one hard, fast push
