Ditto on moving your arm around. Sometimes if my arm is bent it does not flush and I panic but then I straighten it out and it seems to work. Make sure all clamps are open. I have tried to flush my line and it would not go through and sure enough a clamp was clamped down...duh!

Sorry to hear you are on IV's. PLEASE feel better soon! And have a great Christmas and New Year! Health and Happiness!!!

Something that always worked for me in addition to switching the little caps is, if you have one, get a thinner syringe full of saline and flush with that. That unplugs the line and afterwards I would push in some heparin and leave it sitting in there until next use.

I'm not sure if it is safe to unplug the line this way, but it is how I was taught to by the Radiology people that put the picc lines in, and it works for me.

In addition to what everyone has said. Try putting some heat on it to "loosen" things up whether it be the vein, muscle, nerve etc that might be infringing on it.

Good Luck

my nurse was trying to gt blood the other day and she put heprin then tried to get blood. i thought you use saline then draw blood saline again then heprin. the blood wasnt coming and she'd pull the sirnge then push the air back in. it was kinda freakin me out cause she was doing that.
