Hannah, unfortunately, if you miss 2 weeks of classes they are likely going to drop you.

It may not be nice, and it definately is not fair; but they almost certainly will do it.

If the offered you accommodations (a couple extra days), then once they meet those the professor can drop you. Ultimately you could appeal the decision to the department chair and then possibly to the dean.

But, understand you can't appeal on the grounds it is unfair. You would have to convince them that despite missing a third of the semester (8 of 30 lectures in a normal 2x/wk class) you properly learned the material and could take & pass all the tests. That is going to be a very high threshold, because it would require them to admit that you don't need the professor in order to do well in the class.

Ultimately, I'm kinda shocked a professor would do this to a CFer, but little in life surprises me anymore so all I can say is sorry.

I had a very difficult time with some professors while I was in school as well. I don't know if the tech school makes a difference than any university but if I were you I would keep going higher and higher until you get the outcome you deserve. SOMEONE will eventually lend you a sympathetic ear. A lot of people at schools think they can push around student because many will give up giving in to the first few answers. I for one wasn't afraid of ruffling feathers. Give them a scare, chances are they cannot recite ADA rules off the top of their head. So name drop a bit. I had 2 professors threaten to fail me which would have put me at part time and push my graduation too. I just kept going over people's heads, I think I may have threatened to call the news at one point lol! They extended my absences because I was able to keep up with work. I passed one class with an "A" and the other with a "C+" but hey, it wasn't a failing grade so I took it! If you want to talk more feel free to PM me!

I feel your pain! I know its really tough. A great resource is the office of students with disabilities. I actually contacted an attorney. Teachers cannot discriminate against us because we have a medical condition. It obviously complicates matters if you are in medical programs or physical education.

This happened to me my first year of college, and let me just say that after I dropped all of my classes I was told I should have had some type of ADA accommodation. So I would talk to someone in the Student Services or Disability Services department about this one.

Also to put your mind at ease, I was able to appeal the loss of my financial aid and scholarships the following year when I returned to school and I got everything back. I never had to worry about losing my insurance because with my dad's insurance he had the ability to keep me insured through 26 if I was a disabled dependent and he provided half of my income or more.

There are options, but you have to do what is best for your health. The school will be there once you have recovered. You may not if you don't take care of yourself first.

Good Luck and yes it sucks - I am still working on my degree 11 years after I graduated high school. After having 4-5 years off of school because of health reasons and a transplant I have been back for 3 years going part time, yeah it is a long time and yeah it sucks sometimes to be so far behind my peers, but I am getting there and I appreciate it more than they do I think.

good lord are people NOT reading your post??? SHE IS ALREADY WORKING WITH HER DISABILITY ACCOMODATIONS office people... freaking read.

I know we spoke a tad about this... I honestly would contact an ADA lawyer in your state (contact your state's BAR administration) and explain all of this to them. Your disability office might be a little inclined to work with you when they smell an ADA lawsuit. You should also ask for a student handbook, and familiarize yourself with any citings of the law listed in there (for example in WA state, my college handbook lists the RCW- Revised code of Washington). If you find anything in there, let me know and I'll do some further research for you.

also, contact the education department in your state.... what state do you live in? I'll do some research tomorow
