Help with Cost Averages

All:

I'm working on a fundraising effort and was asked by a potential corporate sponsor about average costs of treatment. Being so new, I was wondering if you all could help with this, or direct me to an earlier thread about this or maybe there is info on another website??? I have looked on here, but have only found average costs on transplants specifically. Also, I'm not totally familar with all the average treatments either....so here's my list (I'm sure I'm missing quite a few) along with average costs (pre-insurance) if I know it...any help is appreciated! I'm ultimately trying to work on an "average per month cost - pre-insurance for CFers". If anyone else is interested in having this info, please let me know and I'll forward to you via e-mail once the list is compiled.


Pulmozyme $1,000/mo for 1x a day
Enzymes
Vitamins (CF Source) - $22 /month
TOBI
Other "normally taken" antibiotics average per month or year taken
Hypertonic Saline
Vest
Allergy Medications (allegra, zyrtec, etc)
Inhalers (I'm sure there are TONS of these, I know the two I take are collectively nearly $300/mo)
Advair
Serevent
Spiriva
Rhinocort
Average # of times hospitalized per year/avg cost per hospitalization
Diabetes (don't even know what drugs/treatments are required for this)
CF Related Arthritis (again, don't know what drugs or treatments - but bet I'll get educated on this tomorrow as I see the Arthritis doc for a consult!)

go to this link...its the cystic fibrosis pharmacy....they have a price list of just about every medication a cfers needs before and after transplant

Oh forgot to mention they dont do the home iv antibotics or things that you need from a medical store...like oxygen and supplies, port needles...This is just a list of oral antibotics, diabetic medications and supplies, inhalations..well you will see when you see the list.

I asked this question a few years ago and the following is what the CF Foundation sent to me:

A child with a mild case of CF has an average yearly cost of $29,485, a moderate case costs $69,821, a severe case costs $121,720 and a severe case, with a lung transplant, costs $136,577.

Thank you...that link to the medications and pricing is perfect. Also, the expected annual costs per year based upon severity will be very helpful as well!

The sad thing is that since CF progresses it doesnt matter the severity it will eventually end up being really severe and costly...doesnt matter if it will take a year or 30 years...It will come down to the most severe....and for some reason those numbers look small to me. I dont know how severe my CF is....moderate I suppose.....but I know one year I already had health costs over a million. I havent totaled it up again for each year....I just know that one because I was applying for SSI, and was about to get kicked off my dads insurance...they pulled your to old and then you spent your cap when I had no cap. Ok sorry just rambling.

hi my sons meds run about 15,000 a month.thanks-god for medicade,i also spend about 125 a week on his food hes on a high cal diet,5 meals a day and 7-8 snacks a day

mamabettybear, just wanted to ask if you knew the extra food you spend on your son (above what the normal person his age,weight, height...eats) IS tax deductible as a MEDICAL EXPENSE. If you weren't aware and want more info, let me know, I'll try to refresh a post from a while back or post a new one.
