whether or not the vest is better than manual would be a really interesting study. has this not been done?
for us the real issue is compliance. we are all much much much more compliant with Jess using the vest than we would ever have been if we needed to do every session manually. also, as she has gotten older and is taking more and more responsibility for her routine this is something she can do by herself when we are not around or busy with her little sister.
we did manual PT 2x day for the first 6 years. wouldn't go back now.

I believe studies have been done. There are a few charts on my blog that show this:

">http://blogs.cysticfibrosis.com/index.cfm?forumid=962
</a>

I see that some of this is hard to read, so here are a couple things in the pamplet that supports The Vest being more effective than manual CPT:

"In a four year study of CF patients comparing CPT to The Vest System, 94% of subjects showed either a slowing or reversal of their decline in percent FEV after two years of The Vest Airway Clearance System."

"In a comparative study of 29 patients, The Vest Airway Clearance System cleared three times more mucus than CPT."

There is also one on decreased hospitalization.

Doesn't everyone eventually get a vest? That's kind of how my daughters team makes it sound. She's 2 1/2 and we've talked briefly about getting the vest but we don't really want that bill yet...
