Ditto, call the CF doctor. I rarely contact the local peds doctor because they rarely get back to me AND have told me in the past when I've been concerned about a cough that "that's what they do, they cough".

As for the snippy doctor, I agree you may want to find a different doctor. You have enough worry in your life, why add to it by getting upset, stressed out every time you have to call the clinic.

The Cf clinic called me back and they told me to take him to prds. I took him right away and just like Harriett said they told me he was clear but said all of his issues are in his sinuses. He put him on Augementin for 10 days. The pulmonologist was not even the one to call me back it was the secrtary. I hope these meds work. I am keeping him home tomorrow also even though they said it was ok to go back.. I just dont think it really is. He also has a recheck on Friday. Why do the peds say clear and the CF clinic always says junkie when it comes to lung sounds? This has me confused.

Ohhh argh!!! A sinus infection absolutely can be part of this problem and can make our children cough due to all the junk running down their throat. (So as an aside, I'd suggest sinus rinses to help clear out congestion there and see if it helps him at all.) But a sinus infection would not make it painful to breathe/cause chest pain, so I am right with you in worrying! I would call the cf clinic back and tell them what the ped said and what was prescribed and ask *them* that question (clear lungs vs. junky lungs) and tell them that makes you doubt the accuracy of the ped's findings, especially since he is experiencing pain with breathing. I'm sorry the visit to the ped wasn't more reassuring.

Go with your gut on this one -- does it SOUND like post nasal/sinus congestion or do you think it sounds more bronchial/chesty? When I was told DS' cough was "normal and that it's what people wcf do", I later found out from his CF Doctor that it was bronchitis. And was told to "learn his cough"

DS DID have sinus issues as a baby and was put on augmentin a few times and it worked; however, he usually didn't cough because of a sinus infection. His nasal mucus is pretty much like concrete and it usually doesn't move around unless we use a sinus rinse.
