Does she have any CF symptoms? If she is for sure only a carrier (the one gene only) and she has no symptoms, the fact that she has the g542x gene is of little concern for her health. The only time a person would need to worry about it would be when she chooses to get pregnant -- her partner/husband in that endeavor would need to be tested to see if he is a carrier too -- if he too is a carrier (has one CF gene) they need to make the decision if they want to take the chance of producing a child with CF. If her partner/husband is not a carrier, then there should be very little to worry about - other than seeing if that child received the gene from her mother, making her a carrier too in which case she would have to do the same partner testing that her mother did (the mother being the 13 month old baby that you are talking about now)... have I thoroughly confused you yet?

Also for what it's worth, the gene mutations that end in an X are the ones that they are getting very close to a cure on.
