Hi,

I do not come on here very much anymore, but I did want to respond to your problem.

I have had hemoptysis problems in the past that was totally unrelated to infection. Like you, my pfts were great-- even higher than normal.

For me, Pulmozyme was the problem. I stopped it and lost lung function. When I restarted, I started bleeding again. I have found that I can do it once a day every three days. It is enough for me to retain my lung function, but not enough to make my lungs bleed.

Maybe this is not the problem for you, but I would definitely experiment with things. I know bleeding is the worst thing in the world. I had to have three bronchial artery emoblizations and after the third one I was still bleeding. After altering my Pulmozyme dose, I am have not had any bleeds for 3 years. (other than extremely minor streaking when I had bronchitis).

when my pfts were in the 80's-90's fev1 my lungs would bleed when i was on TOBI. most every time i would start it my lungs would bleed. you are not on TOBI, but are any of the nebs new? - one of your meds could be the cause. also, you might want to take extra vitamin k.

this somewhat happened to me a week after a cleanout. it seems like your lungs start to heal and as a result bleed? the running might have something to do with it, like it released a plug that started bleeding. i was told to take more vitamin K to prevent it.

also could allergies have something to due with it? maybe pollen irritating your lungs

Hi - - Just a question.... did you truly mean 2 - 3 tablespoons of blood or sputum w/ blood in it? I ask only for understanding for myself. I had about one day of blood mixed in my sputum on/off that day. I've read about hemoptisis on this site, but I never know if people are seriously coughing up straight-up blood or it is mucus w/ blood.... esp when people start listing amounts (RE: tablespoons).

Thanks for the info! Sorry to hear that you are having this problem.
