High Calorie Snacks

If you like cheese, it is nutritious and high in fat an calories, but you don't want to go overboard. It can lead to more digestive issues than usual. Pretzels and cream cheese is good too.

Rebjane -- Abbott emailed me and said they have the following protein bars. Are any of these good?

ZonePerfect - Chocolate Peanut Butter/Fudge Graham
Myoplex - Chocolate Peanut Butter/Chocolate Chocolate Chip

Macademia nuts have highest calories for nuts I believe. I grind them up and put in DS grilled cheese sandwhiches, quesidillas (sp?), on pizza, etc. Adds a ton of calories without adding much volumn.

Liza,

We get the Myoplex Chocolate Chocolate chip. They are Yummy! And filling. My daughter can only eat 1/2 a bar at a time. We cut it in half and save the other half for the next day.

This sounds sort of gross, but I have tried it myself and it is pretty good. My 10 yr old dips either pepperoni or sliced turkey in sour cream. Jess doesn't care for sweets at all and she rarely eats chips or traditional snack food. If she had her way she would eat salad for every meal. She loves healthy food. The trick for her has been to leave ANY kind of food out all the time. When she walks by, she grabs a bite or two.

Though I'm on the complete opposite end of needing extra calories, my suggestion would be to NOT indulge in the high, empty ones (you know, sugary stuff, like Nutella or cookies). Sure, it's got a lot of calories etc, but no nutrition.
Try things like nuts and nut butters (celery and PB tastes really good!), avocados, cheeses (maybe cheese sticks or those little Baby Bell circles?), dark chocolate, trail mix...

When I was a kid (and now too as a treat) the best thing ever was tunafish and cottage cheese mashed together (and salted!) on rice cakes. You got your protein, fat, dairy, salt (which IS a food group unto itself!), and whole grain. It looks like something the cat urped up, but damn its good!

A really high calorie snack that I like it peanut butter milk shakes. If you use regular vanilla ice cream, whole milk and peanut butter it taste amazing and has lots of calories.

I love milkshakes. I use whole milk, whipping cream, ice cream, carnation instant breakfast, and whip cream. Instant breakfast by itself is pretty good too. I like the chocolate flavor because is tastes like chocolate milk. It has a lot of protein and calories if you use whole milk and it is really filling.
