High heart rates

I would think that a heart rate in the 200s would be bad. There might be an underlying problem and an EKG just isnt picking it up. Maybe a 24 hour heart monitor (as Jenn said above) or heart cath might show more. I would go with the monitor first. What are ur PFTs and O2 Sats like? When you are sick and your oxygen starts to drop, you heart rate will increase to compensate for the loss, therefore speeding up to get oxygen to your body faster...trying to bring the levels back up. Stress of being sick can cause it to increase too, but I'm not sure about going that high. My heart has been as high as 125-136 before, but never in the 200s. When your heart starts to climb like that, you might want to sit down, take it easy and rest. Keep us updated on what you find out. Hope you get feeling better.

Hi there - glad to read that that was a misprint about the 300. I swear I think my eyes almost popped out of my head when I read that lol.

If you are being tested for CFRD - elevated heart rate and heart palpitations CAN BE a symptom of diabetes as well. I know I had several instances of heart palpitations in the months before I was diagnosed with CFRD. They were very scary - I would get them mostly when I was at rest and I would just start gasping because I couldn't breathe my chest hurt so bad cause my heart was beating so quickly. The episodes would last about 15-30 seconds and then I would be fine. I went to the doctor about them and was told it was stress initially - once I was diagnosed witH CFRD I pieced together that is most likely what they were from.

I haven't had the palpitations like that since diagnosis - except for ONE time. That one time sent me to the ER - when I went they ran all sorts of tests and the ONLY thing to come back abnormal was my blood work - it came back showing that I was deficient in potassium. I started taking a potassium supplement a month after that - just something over the counter - and I haven't had problems since I started taking the potassium.

I also had a holter monitor done - just in case. Painless and easy - for me everything was fine no underlying problems - that is when I started taking potassium.

I hope you get it worked out. Also about the diabetes thing - the heart palpitations was one of the first symtpoms I had of diabetes. It was followed with the fatigue, frequent urination, excessive thirst, blurry vision, mood swings and such. I am not trying to freak you out - just wanted to share my experience with that.

Take Care,
Lindsey

my heart rate is about 130 doing normal things like sitting and eating. My doctor told me its because my heart is working overtime trying to get the oxygenated blood out to the rest of my body. I'd hate to know what it is when I'm exercising.
