high risk donor

Hello all,
I am new to this site and am hoping that you guys could help me with a tough decision I have to make.
I am 27 and have recently been placed on the transplant list. Yesterday, I recieved a phone call from my center asking if I would consider a high risk donor (possible exposure to hep B, IV drug user, in jail, etc). I am on the fence about it, on one hand it gives me more options but on the other hand I dont really want the risk of exposure. I am just wondering what people think, and if anyone else has had this experience.
Thanks.

Hey Fallon,

That definitely sounds like a tough decision to make, so I have to be honest. I would not go for that one. There are so many risks and complications affiliated with transplant that it would only work against you to add on a few more. I know you have waited a long time (hell we all have, I'm trying to get on the list myself) but if you can I would hold out for the best set of lungs possible, cause it's worth it. Stay strong, you'll get to the top!! Where are you now, where do you live, what center are you going through??? What is your FEV1 (if you don't mind me asking?) Please take care and keep us posted. Thanks,
xoxo

Hey Annie,
I go to the Johns Hopkins Adult CF center and am therefore using their transplant center. The two groups work closely together so I am very comfortable with them. My FEV1 is approx 32% on a great day, but has been in the high 20s lately.

Hey Fallon,
I'm going to be going to UCSF in the Bay Area. Are you currently actively listed or listed. My FEV1 ranges between 25% and 17% but alot of people tell me I'm "not sick enough" to be actively listed. What do you doc's say?? I'm interested cause I don't really know how they can say that if this is my 6th pick line for IV antibiotics this year and am on O2 pretty much 24/7 (Don't mean to sound like I'm feeling sorry for myself cause I'm not) I don't really know how they can say that?? Please keep me updated, THANKS!!!
