I'd say thats just medical jargen , lingo.

I used to throw docs out of my room if they asked me
" How Long " I had Cf. Then it hit me. They are Students.
Teach them !
Of course We all know Once a Cfer Always a Cfer.
My guess is that we get at at conception.
It shows up at different times in peoples lives. Mine was 1 1/2 yrs old.
But was not Officially DX until I was 8 although my Mother Nailed it
more than 2 years prior.

I met a pair of female twins who were DX at 54, they
had a No " History " of Cf, But did have some Symptoms their whole life.
But surly they had Cf from Birth, or conception, depending on your view.

I am an RN and yes, that is just medical lingo for what the patient has. For example, when I write on the patient's chart, the "diagnosis" is the direct reason they are there, and the "history" is just basically every other medical issues they may have, such as CF, COPD, cancer, heart disease, even if these things are still an issue.

My first Ob/Gyn for my second pregnancy was like, "so which one of you is the carrier?" My husband and I looked at each other and said "we both are...that's kind of how it works." We weren't too sad when we had to find another doctor.

I never questioned the compentence of the staff based on the comment. It just sounded funny to me. We are at a hospital with an accredited CF clinic and we've been very happy with her treatment here. The staff have been wonderful about wearing masks, gloves, etc. when coming into her room (except maybe a doctor or two - including one who refused even after we asked him to wear a mask.)

The mis-diagnosed Type 1 diabetes was an unnecessary scare which I still scratch my head about. I don't fault her pediatrician who referred us to the hospital. But the Diabetes expert here was convinced that she was too young (at age 3) to have CFRD so it must be Type 1. He said he treats a number of older CF patients so he knew about CFRD. When we told her CF doctor a few days later (after she'd spent a night in the hospital and many finger pricks later), he said "Of course she doesn't have Diabetes. That was just her body's reaction to the UTI she had." Unfortunately, it is a guarantee she will have CFRD when she gets older.

We're still here in the hospital on day 4. Her birthday party is Sunday so we are sure hoping she'll be out by then. She just spiked another fever so I'm afraid my hopes of release tomorrow have been dashed. Thankfully, the couch here isn't too uncomfortable to sleep on and she seems to be in pretty good spirits now. She never gets to watch this much TV at home.

Experiencing CF! I like that one. Though, it really doesn't sound like something I would like to experience

When I went with my daughter-n-law to her ob/gyn appt, the doctor was going over her medical history for the baby and when they came to CF she was sort of skipping over it and I told her we have a history of CF. She looked rite at me and said well since they already had 2 kids with no CF it would not happen with this one either. I was like What? I guess it shouldn't shock me that alot of the medical professionals have no idea about CF.

my favorite is when they asked my kids how long have they had CF. These were some of the doctors on the floor. Sometimes my kids woud be smart and say oh since this morning. My sons favorite was when one of the nurses experienced ( sorry can not remember the term) when he asked what that was she said intestines hanging out, his response was would you not think that would be something I would mention right away like hey nurse I have something dangling dragging on the floor
