On a whim, I googled hypoallergenic cats, hoping to learn more about that unattractive hairless breed. I grew up with many cats. My allergies are mild since having shots during elementary school. It is my husband with the awesome health who has major cat and dog allergies.

So, these are genetically engineered cats. $7000 for the cheapest, delivered sterile of course so you can't make your own business. Ethically questionable. Gives me goosebumps.

Yet, I want one.

My kids are getting "old" (ha!) and I compulsively want more things to take care of. Plus, I just got a kickass vacuum cleaner and can get my head around more cleaning.

I guess it is on to poodle research.

(I have the day off. I've got an ugly virus. DH is taking care of the kids and I am supposed to be editing a historical romance. One scene with a cat, and I am totally sidetracked.)

Your link doesn't work. Perhaps they're talking about a breed of Sphynx cat? Depending on the severity of allergies, these usually are tolerable for those with kitty allergies. Not sure of their cost - but I know they aren't $7k!! Yikes!! They are mostly hairless (if any hair, usually around head, but more like downy texture). They also feel a bit oily because they don't have hair to absorb the oil they produce. They benefit from bathing and frequent ear cleaning as well....all of them I've worked with are extremely sweet. One of them was named Chemo - yes, Chemo.

I was looking for the cat you are referring to, actually!

What I found was these genetically engineered cats. I am not opposed per se, just amazed. I like how in their FAQ, they are vehemently opposed to declawing.

Let me know what you think if you can get the link to work.

What a beautiful cat! While the dog might not give people allergies, I wonder if the dog itself will suffer from them! It appears to be of the terrier line which are prone to allergies! I wonder if their cat wouldn't be too dissimilar in personality than a bengal. Bengals are notoriously difficult to work with because they are so close to the "wild-type" or second generation. They are beautiful, but I wouldn't own a Bengal being that they are a bit looney!
