Remember you cat lovers. I hate to be the cloud over your rainbow, hee hee. But the allergen is also in the saliva and the urine. Those eliminations turn to dust and become airborne.

I tried to buy a Chinese Crested hairless dog.
He was so ugly he was cute. I went to the breeder and spent some time with the cresteds before buying one. I got licked on the cheek and neck. Oh so cute, and I began to break out terrible. I was convinced my allergist was right in her pre warning me. I was stubborn and wanted a dog. Oh well . It didn't work out so now I pat my husband . He will do. haa haa.

Sorry you couldn't get the hairless dog though.
My husband could probably not tolerate the sphynx cat for that saliva reason, but this genetically altered cat (they have dogs too) does not produce the allergen AT ALL. And, apparently in removing/altering the gene, they did not create other problems. The cats are supposedly indistinguishable from regular ones.
Trippy huh?
(I gotta think they might have issues with smelling/communicating with smell...maybe several generations down the line...maybe they will try to mate with your parakeet..)
