Home from Hospital

Hi-
I'm home. Ahhh-my own pillow, my own bathroom, my doggie. I'm so glad I'm home. Yes-I feel terrible. But Id rather feel terrible here.
So when I went in they thought I had tonsilitis. Meanwhile-the past week I caught a cold sore from my husband. He gets them all the time and I've managed to not catch them yet, but this time I got it. It got worse and worse-and spread to my whole mouth. It hurt but I didn't think much of it.

When I was admitted they said I didn't have tonsilitis or anything like that. My lungs were fine-and sinuses congested but not severely. They said that cause my immune system is compromised, I caught the cold sore from my hubby and it just took over-all over the mouth and way down into my throat. The concern was if it got to my lungs it would be bad. So I'm on IV antibiotics and tons of new meds for the herpes virus-which is the cold sore virus. I guess it just sounds better to say 'cold sore virus' than herpes. But that's what I got-raging herpes in my mouth!

For anyone who's never had this-let me tell you-this is the single most painful thing I've ever had. Joking aside-I'd rather lay down and have 5 PICC lines put in me. My mother in law had it-and she said she'd rather give birth.

Oh my goodness, I feel so bad for you! I had it when I was about 9 and I could barely eat. I have never been so sick. Well I can't say never but it was horrible. I understand entirely. Get pampered!

You had it too Emilee, wow I've only met a few people with it. Yeah, I can't eat either. I can drink water, eat ice and a few flavors of jello or pudding. But I'm so miserable i don't even care.
I wish someone could punch me and knock me out cold.
When this is over i'm going to schedule a facial and mani pedi.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Oh Christian, its so gross! My son had it when he was a baby. It was all inside his mouth and down his throat too. So awful!!!! Our doctor said the first time is the worst outbreak. After that it got better each time. ( not that any time is good).
You deserve major pampering!!!

Feel better

Ouch Christian,
I hate mouth sores... my dad gets them a lot. I learned a trick at school/work. We give our patients something called Pink Magic. It consists of Viscous lidocain, maalox, and liquid benedryl. You mix it together and swish it around your mouth...

Did they give you anything like that?? If not maybe you can ask your doctor. The lidocain is a prescription... so ask for it.. it is amazing... it has to be viscous ( which means thick) Mostly we have given it to cancer patients, because when they get chemo it kills the cells in their mouth to which causes blisters.

I hope you feel better.. Also sucking on ice, if it doesn't hurt to swallow might help..

I am just wondering what anti virals they put you on?

Feel better,

Jennifer

Ouch!

I remember having that when I was about 14. I chewed AsperGum all the time when out and when I got home, I used the Viscous Of Xylocaine.

Austin had what we thought was thrush a few months ago. Everything he ate made his whole mouth burn. He was given the Viscous Of Lidocaine.

I feel your pain <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> ! Get better soon!

They put me on Valtrex, Jennifer.
At this point however she said all it will do is shorten the duration. I got treatment too late.
They also gave me Diflucan for yeast b/c I have it all over my tongue.

I tried to eat a piece of plain soft bread this morning and it feels like when you go to the dentist and they put a needle in your gum for novacaine. ouch. not worth eating.

First Christian.....you didnt give me a chance to surprise you at the hospital with a call. For some reason I was thinking this coming Monday you were going in. OH WELL....
Secondly...My daughter had a terrible case of herpes of the mouth when she was little. Her gums were so swollen you could hardly see her little teeth & she hated to eat or drink. It was awful!
Thirdly....I am glad you are home & I hope you bounce back quickly.
Fourthly (is there such a word, LOL)....My checkup is on 4/13

Sorry to hear...As soon as you said "He gave me his cold sore" I knew it was herpes. That must really suck.
