Horrible acne breakout

I have the worst acne breakout ever!! It covers my back with literally hundreds of bumps. That's where it is the worst, but I also am getting a lot of acne on my face and chest, as well. It is very tender and I can't figure out what is causing it. I have not switched medication, soap, shampoo or any other hair products, lotion or perfume. Does a hormonal imbalance during menopause cause this? My periods are regular and I'm only 35 but who knows? Anyone else have this experience? HELP!

My acne flared big time when I was pregnant--scarring quality. I'd look into anything that might be shifting your hormones. Are you on a new med? A steroid?
Menopause when you still have regular periods seems unlikely. My impression from friends who are a bit older than you/me is that periods taper and are weird for a while/years preceding menopause.

I'm not sure about the sweater thing--it started about a week ago, so I don't recall. No new meds...It does remind me of the time I was on Linezolid and had a massive breakout (probably an allergic reaction my doc said).

I don't have much to offer except to say that I also break out with acne from Linezolid, usually towards the end of a 14 day coarse, mostly upper back and chest. I assume it is just a side effect and not being allergic.

Sorry I'm not going to be much help either, but I got adult-onset acne in my early 20's. It was diagnosed as cystic acne, where I actually get cysts under the skin. It's never too late to get acne!

If it continues and truly looks like acne, I would suggest seeing a dermatologist.

I just went through this about a month ago! It has happened to me before, but then I went over 2 years with it and boom it was back! Mostly on my chest, back, shoulders and I could feel some in my scalp! Hundreds of tiny bumps. Some hurt, some itched and some where poppable! Turns out it was folicitis (sp?) Inflammation of my follicles. The doc gave me a special "shampoo" and within 2 days, completely gone!!
