Horrible Arthritis

You know, my hips were bothering me so much that there was nothing I wouldn't do to at least feel comfortable. It's a terrible feeling when you are betrayed by your own body. I couldn't do the things I was so used to doing. I searched far and wide, and ordered a pill from the internet. It was called Zimosine. It worked tremendously, the only thing that bothered me was the glucosamine in it. It really wreaked havoc on my blood sugars. So I had to quit taking it and it seems I was in the same boat. But I refused to settle, I noted all of the ingredients in Zimosine and planned to buy them all, minus the glucosamine, to pinpoint the exact cause of my relief.

The first ingredient I tried was Devil's Claw Extract. I was on it for 2 weeks and it did nothing to relieve me, but I noticed it did cause me to have more sputum; chest congestion. So I quit that, and it was off to buy the next ingredient, Bromelain. After the first dose, I felt noticeably better, and I have not looked back since. I take 2 capsules daily, and I am a lot more normal then I ever was.

Now I really don't have arthritis pains, but I don't see why this wouldn't help. Bromelain is an anti-inflammatory, and much stronger then any OTC medicine without the nasty side effects. Plus, it's ridiculously cheap. I got 100 pills for $7!

I know that my joints hurt whenever an infection is present, the more severe the infection, the more severe the pain and it does seem to affect my wrists, knees, hips and even my ankles. Maybe you are getting a secondary infection, sometimes a viral infection can lead to a bacterial which might flare up your CF. I'm just postulating of course, because that is what happens to me. A cold always goes into something bacterial with me, it never ends with "just a cold".
Anti inflammatories help, so do warm showers. The pain is sometimes so bad that I need to take narcotics. I have chronic pain because of Ehler's Danlos, but this type of pain is different. It just feels inflamed everywhere.
I would call the doc, at least they might offer up some suggestions or test you for lyme's, autoimmune disorders etc.... if that is suspect. I sure hope you feel better and that you get answers soon.

It seems that my hip is throwing my entire body off (I have a permanent dislocated hip). CF doctor gave me the okay to do Advil around the clock until I get in with the orthopedic surgeon. I am doing TONS better on the Advil.

All of this happened right after my croup so I started to jump to conclusions.

I didn't have a rash like I normally do with CF related arthritis so I knew it was something different. CF related arthritis for me usually lasts for a couple of days... this arthritis pain went on for longer than normal. Lots of clicking and popping...

With the Advil I can maneuver the stairs and clean my house!! Now to get the hip fixed.... yikes!!

I get the exact same arthritis that Stephanie above mentioned. Nothing works but prednisone. When I am not on prednisone the only thing that dulls the pain to make it bearable is Advil. I have been tested for a ton of autoimmune diseases but nothing popped up. I think it is just another bad part of CF. I hope it goes away soon for you!

Ditto: Im so sorry for your pain. I also have chronic neck , shoulder, joint, elbow , on and on, Like the others who posted it does seem to be a inflammation in the certain body parts. My neck especially. It is so draining and takes so much from me. The doctors don't seem so interested and are more focused on my lungs and "end stages" of my disease. Some of the PT's have helped with cushions to lean on and hold myself up with when really sick. For the most part I have been living with this for years. Initially I was always active and full of energy but recently this pain has beat me up. I hate to say it but it is comforting to know that I am not alone. I know you will agree , I would not wish this chronic pain on anyone. Mamerth , my heart goes out to you and the others. I will say this that when I have had enough and things are really bad, MY prayers are always answered and I'll get a couple days off without pain. I don't ask for much. I will say a prayer for all of us .
