Hi all,

We are starting to pack for our admit on Tuesday and wondering how much of our own medical stuff we should take. Do we take our own meds, enzymes, nebulizers and compressor? I'm not draggin our ancient vest along, but should I take our flutter? Thanks!

hey tonya, usually when i've been in the hosp in the past they've wanted to me to have new bottles of meds through them so they know exactly what i'm getting etc. its probably helpful to bring a few doses of enzymes etc because sometimes it takes them a little while to get all that stuff for you and then you'll have enough to get you started. don't worry about compressors or neb cups or anything like that, they have it all. you could bring the flutter but they should have PTs come in and do chest pt or have a vest for you to use. hope this is helpful!

For our clinic/hospital they recommend bringing enough enzymes, insulin etc that you would need ASAP when food comes etc. Pharmacies tend to be slow especially with new admits. The rest works out ok.

Our clinic offers the vest compressor for anyone wanting additional treatments to the CPT given by the therapists. We do, however, have to bring our actual vests to use.

Ditto on what the others have said. I usually make sure I bring along at least a day's worth of meds, especially since the hospital pharmacies are usually closed by the time the doctors get all the orders written for meds. Don't worry about bringing a nebulizer. The RT should provide you with the disposable kind that hooks up to the oxygen outlet by the bed. A flutter would be a good thing to have. Personally, I'd leave the flutter at home too. My rule of thumb is don't bring any personal equipment to the hospital that can possibly pick up a bug. There's no guarantee that nurses won't touch/move your stuff, and with the recent MRSA threats, it's just not worth the risk.

I hope the admission process goes smoothly and that it won't take long for the doctors to come up with the right combination of meds to knock out whatever bugs are being cultured.

All the best,
Lauren
