i had to be hospitalized when my baby was three months old (and many times since) he stayed with my mom and dad, who i trust completely, because my husband had to be at work. my hospital would not have let him stayed there with me, and frankly i was tired and not up to taking care of him either.
i'm not sure what to do about the breast milk because my son was on formula by this time. i would ask your doctor about side effects of the IV medication antibiotics and perhaps slowly start mixing some formula with your breast milk to eventually wean off completely. breast milk is the best milk in general, but in your case it might not be depending on what drugs you are on. i would talk to the doctor about this - it might not be safe.
another thing, that i see others brought up is home IV's. this can be a good thing or a very hard thing to pull off depending on your medication schedule. i have done home IV's many times too, but it can be exhausting. i would recommend this if you have a family member around who can help you with home IV's because between taking care of baby and infusions you are working non-stop and your body doesn't not get much rest. (not that you get much rest in the hospital either though)
my best recommendation would be to get your tune up and leave your baby with someone you trust completely like your husband or mom. if this is not an option, and there is no one you can rely on, i would recommend pushing for home IV's.
my son is five years old now and i still hate leaving him and going to the hospital. i know it must be done though, and better for him in the long run. he is very comfortable at my mom and dad's and while he misses me, and i miss him it's over in a few weeks and we return to life.
also, when i do home IV's my husband is my rock. he is awesome and does almost everything for me. so basically i cannot stress enough how important family support is...
so take care of yourself girl! that's important and your baby needs you! so if you need a tune up- don't be scared, do it!
