how accurate are sweat tests?

Ok I have a question on this as well. I am 26 and had a sweat test and genetic testing due to my daughter being diagnosed with CF and me having many of the sypmptms. My sweat test came back 66 and 74 i think, and my genetic testing showed one mutation and an unknown that was not normal. I have never been able to gain weight had asthma all of my life and keep pneumonia, yet the doctors told me that I did not have CF. My PFTs were in the 60% as well.

kathiel -- It is my understanding that anything over a 60 is positive. And two gene mutations, even if one is a novel mutation, would seem like a diagnosis to me. Are you working with an accredited CF center?

I don't know why you would have been told you do not have CF with sweat tests that high. The scale goes:

up to 40 is normal
41-60 is borderline
61 and above is positive.

It is possible to get carrier symptoms with only one gene, but with sweat test numbers that high my best guess is at the time of your test they just couldn't identify your second gene.

You should defiantly be getting treatment. Was the doctor who told you that the same doctor who is treating your daughter?

Your situation doesn't sound right to me - positive sweat test, one confirmed gene identified through genetic testing, and several classic CF symptoms with PFT 25% below normal -- someone has really missed the mark here.
