How awesome is your doctor?

National Jewish is five stars..ten stars. Dr Nick is over the top..emails back on vacation instantly. Smart, thinks outside the box proactive. He is my hero in a doctor..he is too far to see all,the time but I will see him at least once or twice a year or more if i progress, less if I dont

My current center is not accredited and since I don't fit a good mold..They will do what National,Jewish recommends!

We're moving to Texas, but are considering the option of flying to a really good Adult CF Center for appointments several times a year. I know others do this. What are the positives and negatives? Do you coordinate the "away" center with the "in-town" center? What happens when you get sick and need help immediately? Denver is ranked as the #1 respiratory hospital in the country, but not necessarily for CF. We have close friends in Denver and a quick nonstop flight, so that makes it more viable. I look at the CF Care Center data over and over, but there are so many things to consider. Any advice?

Dr. Liou is Salt Lake City (Utah, USA) is a fantastic specialist, and has kept replying to my emails long after I was a patient of his! (during college time)

I've had really bad doctors in the past!

Now I am fortunate with Dr. Togores in Palma de Mallorca (Spain) who sits down with me for sometimes two hours, explaining every single line in the blood test, every curve in the PFT. He loves teaching and makes a point in my understanding what is really going on and helps me find strategies to fix those issues. I love him to death!! To bad he's retiring in less than two years...

I've had really bad doctors in the past!

Fantastic!! I tested them after reading this thread by emailing a request. Response time for email: 6 minutes. Once I needed a lot of paperwork within a short time frame and they had filled it out and faxed it out within half an hour.

Recently they actually got Medicaid to cover Cayston for me (my lung function and ability really make this difficult) and just got it and have someone sending me regular supplies of Glucerna, (I am diabetic and cant drink those high carb drinks). It really goes on and on. I cannot name the ways this clinic is far superior to any other clinic I have been to.

Gosh, I don't know if that's because I live in a 3rd world country, or if there are lots of excelents CF docs in other cities, but my boyfriend's doc simply gives him prescriptions, and don't even look at his eyes, in every appointment with his CF team. =( Even when he asks something to him, he doesn't know how to answer, or say that what he is feeling is "nothing to worry about".
All we know, and do about his CF treament, we search on the internet. In an appointment with a pediatrician specialized in CF (there are only 3 in town, and 2 of then are pediatricians), my boyfriend learned more about his disease and condition in one single appointment with this guy than his entire adult life with his CF doctor. And we had to go to the CF doctor avaiable, since his doctor wasn't in town, it was an emergency and he wasn't answering his cellphone, and people from other hospitals doesn't even know what CF is...

Most of the times, I feel helplessness seeing how his doctor treats him, as just another statistic number for his CF researches.

So, I'd give him 0 score. Really. =/
