How does Great Strides work?

I just signed up for a team. However, I'm not sure how it works...especially the first year.

Do I just ask friends to walk together? Do I ask those same people to give money or are they in charge of getting money from other people?

Am I supposed to give money? How much?

I'm not sure I understand how this works. Can someone explain?

I'm afraid to scare people off so quickly by telling them "come out and walk...and give money." Seems like people will walk but it will take time to give $$.

Thoughts are starting out?

If you signed up on line, there are a lot of tips on how to raise money, examples of letters you can send out asking friends, family, coworkers, complete strangers for money. There's also an online form inviting people to join your team, inviting people to donate money. It's fairly easy. I usually do the invite walkers and invite people to donate online first and fairly early on. Our walk is May 1st, so I'll probably do that mid-February or March.

Personally, I've had more luck with the letter writing campaign. I go thru my list of contacts and generate labels. Type up a form letter, add some personal info, pictures of DS and mail it out a month or so before the walk. Include my email address and ask them to contact me if they want the link to donate online or participate in the walk.

You can get posters from the local CFF, there may also be planning meetings in your area...

Can you walk with a group without having to worry about donating?

I feel like so many people have helped us financially as we just learned about our son's diagnosis...I hate to ask them again...

you have a team goal and then each walker get their own personal goal. So even if the members on you team can't donate much, they can ask people they know to help meet with their goal. I am getting ideas for ours this year. We did a Softball tourney last year. This year we plan to do it again. We raised a lot of money for CF. Good Luck!
