Dear Friends,

Something has happened today I am still in shock and my cf doc and cf nurse don't know quite what to make of this.

On Sept. 11 I had a hemoptisis and was admitted for ivs. They made sure that the drugs they gave were Class B drugs so the risks were lower than the benefit to the babies.

The next day after I was admitted I had pfts and was at the highest 52% my base is normally 60-62%. So needless to say I was quite sick from the blood.

I spent a week in the hospital and before I came home my fev1 was 66%. The highest it has been in nearly five years.

Tomorrow I am due to get off ivs so I went in to have my pfts done. The cf nurse called and asked if I was sitting down. She said "Kelly I have never seen this before espcially in pregnancy". My fev1 was 75% . Keep in mind the last time I blew this was in middle school according to them..

The only thing I can say is that my church has been praying like crazy for the babies and me, I have started enzymes since we found out I am pancreatic insufficient and have gained about 9 pounds.

I am so in shock and don't know what to make of this. I kept askin if it could have been human error and she kept saying no it wasn't possible!

Does anyone have a similar story?

Kelly

I have a similar story. My FEV1 climbed the highest its been in as long as I can remember. And even better I didn't suffer from hemoptysis during pregnancy while I usually have it as often as a few times a week. Like I said to someone, if I didn't have cf I would seriously consider being a surregete because pregnancy goes so well with my body.

Now can they figure out a way to induce the body to feel like its pregnant? I'd pay a lot of money for that. It just goes to show how much hormones play a part in our disease (at least for (some) ladies).

I believe it was Tara that also had the best FEV1 in years during even the end of her pregnancy.

Are you long torso'ed? I didn't have any shortness of breath and there was plenty of room at 39.5 weeks with a 7 lb. 10 oz. baby in there due to my long torso.

Cheers to healthy happy times during pregnancy.

One more thing...

I've heard hemoptysis either increases or decreases during prego but rarely stays at the same frequency/volume as pre-prego. How often do you deal with hemoptysis pre-prego?

Wow Kelly, that is GREAT, beyond great! I think it shows what good some nutrition will do. are you beign more compliant with meds adn such too? My PFT's have increased post delivery because i joined here and got serious and aggressive with my treatments. As far as during, ugh, not a pregnancy partaker here.

LouLou-maybe you can be my surrogate! Ha! I wouldnt cahnge it for the world but mine was horrid. Lets see, weeks 6-10 all day nauseau Week 11 gestational diabetes 'borderline' diagnosis followed by life altering migraines weeks 10-18 (BP meds helped) weeks 19 major bleed landed me in ER, week 20 lung exacerbation landed me home on 2 weeks IV's and started having alot braxton hicks week 22 found out they werent braxton hicks and started having them as close as 5 minutes apart, went on meds, pelvic rest, light duty The rest of the pregnancy was filled in with constant worry and alot hip back pain sending me to chiro's every week (helped immensely). I am sure I left some of the 'joy' out LOL but you get the picture!
