HOW LONG ARE YOU USUALLY ON ORAL ANTIBOTICS?

Generally Reece is on them for about 10~14 days. He goes to the doctor again for a follow up this friday. She said if he seems to be doing better, he can stop the drugs. My thoughts are, yes he does seem to be doing better, still has an occassionally cough, but thats a given. He will only have been on Bactrim & Levoquin for 7 days on Friday. I would like him to stay on them at least another week. I dont think she will mind, I just thought its a given you stay on any antibotics for atleast 2 weeks. (unless its those big gun drugs that only take 5 days) Just wanted to get some feedback on what ya'lls experiences had been. Thanks!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

14 days is a general rule when treating PA.

It's one of the most virulent bugs on the planet and needs to be exposed to antibiotics for an extended period time to be adequately beat down.

Geez we were on Cipro for 3 months, I think, when Katy cultured PA. We had just been diagnosed and it was her first culture, so I don't know. Maybe our doc is really agressive??

Usually it's 10-14 days -- last spring DS had a nasty cough and was prescribed 14 days of cipro. And a couple of years ago he was on 20 days of augmentin to get rid of a particularly persistent sinus infection.

Yeah, thats what I thought, so thats why I was wondering why RT's doc would take hin off after only 7 days! He has been on an oral for 21 days before. Different doctor though, although they are in the same clinic. Hmmm? Oh well I will mention that I want him to stay on for another week. Thanks for the replies!
