i take about 15 pills in the morning, but not all at once. i have never tried to see the maximum i can take, but i can do 3 "horse pills" and probably not more than 10 enzymes. like lindsey, i prefer to take the similar sized ones together.

fred, something you said was something i've wondered before: do people need more enzymes when they are sick? i think i noticed this last time i got sick for the first time in my life.

I use to swallow 9 with water or pop or something, but then they would get stuck in my throat once in awhile, and that crap hurt, so now I only take 3 at time. If I could would take them all at once, but dont want to take t he chance, plus even 3 still gets stuck once in a blue moon if I swallow them wrong.

Depending on the size ... if we are talking about Creon or Ultrace I can probably take upward of 20 at once with liquid.

However, how many can you take with no liquid?

I think I can get up to 8 or 9, but i have to leave them in my mouth just long enough for my salivary glands to kick-in, but too long and the enzyme shells start to soak up the moisture, so you can't wait too long before you swallow.

Grendel

My dad kinda forced/encouraged me to try swallowing enzyme pills when I was 5. They were tired of breaking the enzymes open and mixing them with mushed bannana to deliver them.

Wow, I actually thought this would be a "lame" topic, but turned out pretty popular...and I found out I'm not the only one who gulped down nearly 20 at a time...then cut down according to my age!!

Laura (catboogie), when I referred to as "sick", it was in regards to the stomach or gastrointestinal, so as not to be confused with our other forms of feeling "sick".

This is personal opinion, but basically if I'm having stomach aches, poor bowel movements (loose or with too much oil), I usually would adjust my enzymes to match the hard work my digestion system needed for it. But, I'd also try and adjust my food intake to avoid the oily foods. As we've seen here, everyone has their degrees of complications, but I personally had problems from foods with too much oil, and would take extra enzymes for them (I don't take enzymes now, but there are a few supplements that will actually help)

The other form of "sick" would be having a lung infection, and taking the antibiotics (and/or vitamins) along with the enzymes, increasing the amount needed to take.

I couldn't take medication with milk, because, well, basically, I couldn't stand mixing milk with meds. (Besides, some meds were not supposed to be taken with dairy, so watch your warning labels!-public announcement-hehe!)

I've been able to take only one without anything to drink, and it was under rare circumstances, like being somewhere with nothing to drink, or in a hurry.
