How much Creon for a 3 year old?

My daughter will be 3 in a month and weighs 25 lbs. She was just diagnosed a couple months ago and has no respiratory symptoms, but is pancreatic insufficient. She is on Creon 10 (now 12000), 1 capsule with meals and 1/2 with snacks. She is definitely better, but lately her poop has been more yellow and loose than it was when she first started. She isn't really underweight, but at the same time, she hasn't gained any weight yet. I know her CF doctor said she was starting her on a low dose. What is a typical dose for a 3 year old? I am going to call tomorrow to see if we need to up the dose, but I was just curious....

You may need to give her an extra enzyme, or a whole one with snacks. I am 110lbs and I take 6 with meals (well 4-6). Also you may find that Creon aren't the best for her. I know that everyone reacts to different enzymes so you might have to play around with them.

Def call the doc b/c they have a calculation for it. But Goo momma for noticing its not working Its important to be ahead of the game when it comes to CF.

Call your CF doc or nutritionist and they will work with you. My 3 year old has been taking 3 creon 5 with snacks and 4 with meals. but she is pancreatic sufficient and only takes it to help absorb calories.

Does your child also take zantac or prevacid? It's pretty common to also need those to balance the stomach acid and make the enzymes work better. But the big picture that we've learned with our CF child is that enzyme dosage is a very inexact art and we're constantly adjusting dosage depending on how his gut reacts, how much and what he eats, etc. It can be frustrating to see them uncomfortable when the dosage does not hit the mark, so I sympathize with your concerns.
