How much does everyone pay for Hypertonic Saline?

Its pretty self explanatory. I was also wondering, Amy mentioned that she got hers through a mail order and I wondered if by chance it was Medco? Thanks for any input. I pay $32.00 for a month supply.

Emilee..I get HS from CF Services and I think it is like $32.50..?? BUT my nurse just hooked me up with Pharmacy South and they send a 2 months supply for $60 and it comes already mixed. I think we are going to keep using that one..it is especially convient for travel.
Check it out.

I mean I get it, it really helps, I've been on it.
I just think it's so funny it's ridiculous..

Philadelphia mixed by a pharmacist (or something along those lines) I remember looking up was around 30-ish.. but it's been a while..

I get the 5% iv bags, and just draw it with a syringe. I keep it in the fridge for a week and then throw it away. I go through 4 a month at like, 3 dollars a bag, so it's really nothing. I know it's not 7% but it's good enough for me. Any hospital will carry them.

I'm not too worried either about contamination cause i mix it with the super strength OO and let it sit for a min. After that i take tobra. Since starting tobra 2 weeks ago, i feel pretty amazing, like i was 15 again. I wake up non congested, can run like crazy now, and just feel generally a lot better.

I'm working on getting insurance (which is very easy in canada, i'm just lazy) so that maybe i could possibly get the tobi and try a higher dose (with tobra you can only take 160 mg total, cause of the preservatives.) I'm sure with tobi i will notice an even bigger difference.

Sometimes i wish i had tried some of this sooner, but to be honest, i don't think i would have adhered to the schedule as I am now. But I'm glad things are working out now, and I'm taking a bit more initiative into these kinda things.

ps I hear that pulmozyme and HS work well together. Anyone mix the two?

You think it's bad to mix the two. God all these freaking things take so much time!

What's intal?

I dunno, you're probably right about taking the HS and Pulmo seperate, but i would just mix them.

Read the last line of this article. I'm not sure if they mean seperately or together?

I think they are talking about combining the use of HS and Pulmo...not the actual products. They are suggesting that using both treatments (not at the same time) is more beneficial than doing either of them alone. I have heard that Pulmozyme is very "unstable" (for lack of a better word) so nothing should ever be combined with it.

Edited to add a question:
We are just starting HS. Is it ok to do the albuterol and then use that same neb (without rinsing, ect) for the HS? So basically the HS would have a residual amount of albuterol in it. We already use 3 different neb cups a day, and if the HS need its own neb cups too then I really need to get somemore nebs!

Man my treatments don't take up a whole lot of time.
AM:

Xopenex
Intal
MucoMyst

Each takes around 10 minutes. Then 10 minutes of PEP or Acapella

late afternoon

Xopenex
Intal

and then bedtime
Xopenex
Intal
MucoMyst

10 minutes of PEP or Acapella

Of course TOBI adds a lot more time when I have to do that but the rest are pretty fast. I used hypertonic saline for a little while but it didn't help a whole lot, I couldn't tolerate over 5% and it added a lot of time onto my routine

Why don't you just ask about the 5% iv bags, they are only 3 dollars......?</end quote></div>

i'm not positive how sterile these bags are after they are punctured....even if put in the fridge.

i throw my viles away after each use.</end quote></div>

That's why i mix the OO with it just in case. But i also draw my salbutemol with a syringe, that lasts a few days. How sterile is that?

Wow I have not heard of the 10% and the 3% mixed. I use 6mL of 10% and mix it with 3mL of .9% and then pour out 5 mL of the mixed solution and do 4mL a treatment. I wonder why I am on .9% and not 3? Hummmmmm

do not mix hs and pulm mixing them causes them not to work so its a waste of time. I was reading a thing about HS and it said that the only HS % that was provin to work was the 7% and that all the others didn't do anything?

My insurance pays for my saline
