I always cough when I should be quiet-- when people are sleeping, during prayer, when hubby is trying to think or read.</end quote></div>

Ugggh me too. I went to this piano recital for a friend in college and of course I felt the need to cough through the whole thing. I tried holding my breath... coughing quietly...water... everything. Eventually I just had to leave the concert hall. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

I cough a fair amount all day, but when I lay down to sleep I cough a lot more. Laughing/crying/exercise make me cough a bunch too.

I cough all the time, at least once every 3-5 minutes. It's rather ridiculous. Water helps sometimes, but sometimes I have to drink soda or another kind of flavored thing. I usually have a supply of Creme Savers if it gets really bad. I think sucking on something helps, plus it takes your mind off of it. One of my greatest fears is that people in my classes will think I have some kind of contagious bug or something serious. It IS serious but you can't get it.

People have said way more ignorant things to me than what I've mentioned. A lot of people suggest that I'm contagious but I don't blame them too much because I sometimes do sound contagious. Honestly, even when other people cough I always wonder if they're contagious or not and avoid being around them. I understand, so I learn not to take it personally.

Growing up and still some people don't know that I have CF. My boyfriend of 6 years found out because a teacher that I confided in asked me if I was feeling better. And he just looked at me funny and said "what was wrong with you?". I just ran down the hallway and went to my next class and avoided him for the rest of the day - wondering how I was going to tell him. I used to just say I coughed because of allergies.

What I do to stop from coughing is have a bag of cherry flavored or honey lemon flavored cough drops handy. The eucalyptus seems to help me, especially when I chase it with cold water. That's my quick fix. A lot of times I do have to leave events early or for a period of time and return. Oh well, it comes with the territory!
