How often do you get hemoptysis?

I can usually trace my episodes back to a cause...exertion, hot dry air (my parents used a wood stove at Christmas), infection. I was hospitalized for it once, but I've never had a real major episode. My first time was only about 4 years ago, but it's become more regular since then.

For me hemoptysis comes and goes, usually with an infection. I would say that I have hemoptysis (usually maybe a tbsp's worth) every 4 mos or so. When I was in my late teens, my hemoptysis, though never more than 1/2 cup or so, was occuring several times a week. I had a bronchial artery embolization. I haven't had hemoptysis with that kind of frequency since.

I appreciate your feedback, everyone. I don't really hear much about hemoptysis from other CFer's unless they're getting embolized but I konw others have hemoptysis but haven't had the procedure, etc.

I've been getting mine a few times a year for the past few years. So I just wanted to see how often others get their hemoptysis and how much was typical.

Thanks again.

If I'm going to have hemoptysis, it's usually a few days before my period. Within the last year, I've had an "episode" maybe 8 out of the 12 months, although thankfully it's only a small amount of straight blood, usually only a few tablespoons.

My doctor says there's definitely a link (maybe the hormones that trigger blood flow of the lady parts weaken capillaries and veins elsewhere) but can't say for sure what. I'd be interested to hear if any of the other ladies have this issue.
