how often do you get sick?

It's been about a year since I last went to the hospital, but it seems like many of you go quite regularly. Have any of you noticed patterns or cycles in regards to your health? I have noticed that I do pretty well most of the time, don't go to the hospital often, etc. but over the past few years, usually about once a year I have gotten REALLY sick, and progressively worse each year.

I'm glad that I don't have to go to the hospital as often as others, but all that seems to get evened out when the time comes that I get really sick. For example, last year I nearly died after my lung collapsed while I had pneumonia.

I used to be hospitalized every three months, like clockwork. For a couple years, the only clinic visits I would go to would be hospitalization follow-ups, and then a couple days before the real quarterly visit, I'd be back in the hospital and seeing my docs that way.

Now, it's about every six months. I get sick more often than that, with colds and things like that, but not usually to the point of needing IV meds. But in June and December, I go in to kind of just get me back to 100%. I notice that when the 6 month mark is coming up, I'm feeling more run down and coughing more, but once I go in, I'm set for another 6 months.

I feel like I get sick every 2-3 months and wind up on IVs for another month. Sometimes I'll go 2 or 3 weeks in between then back on. I'm always on home IVs; I don't often, if ever, get hospitalized for respiratory issues. If I go into the hospital it's for digestive or liver problems. I was hospitalized probably 2 or 3 times for coughing up a lot of blood and once for a collapsed lung.

I'm only hospitalized every 2 years or so. I was actually hospitalized for the first time @ 17 years old... My dr's usually like to try oral antibiotics first then see how I'm doing. So I've been pretty lucky so far. But of course I'm going through this right now so lets just hope I don't need iv's.. I think it varies for everyone....
