I'm 5'4 and 108, 33 years old. My whole family is on the lean side, and I run alot. We are a very active family and eat lots of greens <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">. We have 2 kids that keep us moving too! I was on a 2 1/2 week trip abroad and lost quite a bit of weight - working on getting that back!

Hi my son is 21 with CF and 5'6" and 122 lbs. and my daughter is 15 with CF and 5'2" and 168 lbs. She has no digestive issues and takes no enzymes, as of yet. My son has always had digestive issues and pancreatitis but lungs are in great shape. PFT for my son over 100 and my daughter has to struggle a little more with her lungs but so far great PFT's of 98 or 95's usually. She has gotten down to the 60's but pulled them up with antibiotics and alot of PT. But the dr.'s dont want her to loose any weight at all because of course eventually she will need that extra weight at some point.

I am 5' 1.5" and weigh 114. I have weighed as much as 137 and as little as 106 at this height. I lost down to 125 after I started having insulin problems and had to start taking metformin and eat no sugar. Now I am having bowel issues (going in for a hysterectomy and a bowel resection in the next couple of weeks) and have lost another 11. I am trying to hold onto this because my lung issues, which rarely are worse that serious asthma, rear their ugly head when my weight drops.
My 14 year-old is 5' 1" and weighs 95 pounds. We are always trying to feed her, but she is a borderline diabetic, so no sugar for calories.
My 22 year-old is 5' 2" and "chunky" (no numbers are allowed!).

Hi! I'm 35 years old now, 5'9 and weigh 150 pounds. Getting tired of people seeing how much I eat (I eat a LOT) and saying they wish they could eat what I do and stay as thin as me.

I'm 29, 5'4". weigh 139lbs. I've had no problems keeping my weight on for the last 10 years. Mostly in part to taking care of myself, getting sleep, and not partying, like I used to. I have gone up to as high as 157. A few times my CF doctor actually informed me I should lose a few pounds, because it was affecting my breathing. But only when I was at my higher weight. Having control over my diabetes with my insulin pump has help greatly as well. A lot of people don't realize how poorly controlled sugar will mess with your weight as well.

Ank do you drink supplements? I kept one with my kiddo all the time for constant sipping. Despite a meconium ileus and very low birth weight, he is a healthy weight and normal BMI. Find a high cal drink, or just make milkshakes and drink them all day long.....

6 meals a day and get checked for diabetes. Or if already dx as diabetic, work with your clinics' dietitian for several sessions until you can figure out how to down the requisite calories while controlling your blood sugar.

How many calories do you eat in an average day? If you don't know, track your consumption for a week. Then try to match a calorie goal you developed with your dietitian (in the mean time you could just increase intake by 500-1000 calories). My dietitian recommended 3500-3800 calories a day for me, if you want a very rough ballpark comparison (but I'm not trying to put on weight, and I'm a bit older than you, so I'd guess your needs would be higher).

Really finding 1 or 2 good staple foods that you can consume in large volumes, digest well, and are very easy to prepare/access seems to work for me to hit my calories needs. Cereal, Sandwiches (grilled cheese or PB&J), trail mix (nuts, dried fruit, granola), or something else that works for you. I tried shakes for a while, but I just couldn't drink enough of them without getting appetite fatigue. It also helps that my wife will prepare foods in large enough volumes that I can eat big meals for dinner and then take big left-over portions for lunch the next day. With CF always cook large portions, save the extras (if any) and reheat them whenever you have any sort of appetite.

Strength/weight training, if you can, helps too. Put that protein to good use. Not only does it help build muscle, but you'll have more energy, and get some of that junk out of your lungs.
