How to make g-button less noticeable...

My oldest son who is 12 years old has a g-button and he was always wondering how he could "hide" his button so it isn't noticeable thru his clothes. After doing some checking with other parent's of CFer's and the docs we thought we were stuck with band-aids or ace bandages. My cousin happened to have some Tagaderm film that goes over like a PICC or central line. Mason cut out a piece and put it on his skin over his button and he was so thrilled. I tell him that it is part of who he is and that he just needs to accept it but he thinks he needs to hide it. It sticks good directly on his skin and we even had our pulmonary clinic call a prescription into our home healthcare company and they sent it right out. Just a thought for some of you that may be experiencing what Mason was going thru. Hope this helps....

That's a good idea. We have tegaderm but I never thought of doing that. Does it push the button in at all? Alyssa complains that when she is hungry the button sucks into her stomach and makes her not want to eat. (??) I don't know what this means, but she's said it many times. I wonder if the tegaderm would make her feel that way too.

Masons is a 18 french and it is longer but that is so it will work still when he gets to be an adult if he still needs it. Maybe I can shed some light on the "sucking in thing". I had a feeding tube for 8 years (but haven't had one in for 7!). I can distinctly remember when I was hungry my stomach would pull the feeding tube in. Think about when you are hungry enough that you get hunger pains. If you notice your stomach contracts a bit. That is what they are talking about. The stomach contracts and it feels like it is tugging on the tube. Ask to see it when she says it is happening. You will be able to see what she is talking about. The best thing to do at that point is have some water (trick the stomach) and then eat.

Exactly! I still have my g-tube and it does this every now and then. For me, if my stomach has pretty much nothing in it then my tube will "suck in" I agree and I believe it's because it needs food. It's hungry. But, Sometimes it does make me not want to eat anything because the "hunger pain" actually turns to nausea. Maybe you could prevent this by making sure she has eaten within so many hours? If that relates any to my situation.

Sounds like my not-quite-6-year-old has explained it pretty well. I'll try to make sure she eats something regularly, but if she feels that way I'll try a drink of water first.

Sounds like my not-quite-6-year-old has explained it pretty well. I'll try to make sure she eats something regularly, but if she feels that way I'll try a drink of water first.

You're welcome! When I read your response to this thread I thought, "omg that happens to me too!" If I was 6 years old I would probably describe it the same way as your daughter is. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I first got my tube when I was 11 and it started happening right away. It scared me but WITH OUT the doctors help I figured out why it was "sucking in" I had a doctor tell me that is was NOT sucking in and it was my imagination. My mom was so mad <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0"> ...yeah, I would just make that up! but anyways, glad we could help.
