How to make the Vest more useful

I've also found that blowing like you do during pft's (maybe not quite as hard) is very effective. I actually take the mouthpiece off the pari neb and blow into like its the mouthpiece of the pft machine. It does work well. I will add, I've always had trouble getting the vest to bring stuff up. Warrick's technique is good though, and should help.
