How to travel with all this stuff

i usually carry my stuff on with me, the vest included. i pack my refridgerated meds in a little collapsable lunch box/cooler type thing with an ice pack and put it in one end of the vest duffle and pack my nebulizer in the other end pocket and carry that sucker on. i've almost dropped it on my head a couple times when trying to get it in the overhead compartment b/c i'm really short so its kind of a reach for me but thankfully some nice tall person takes pity on me and helps me out hehehe.

i always get stopped going through security with it but if its a relatively large airport they've probably seen one before or seen similar devices so they aren't totally unfamiliar with medical equipment coming through.

i have the hillrom 104 vest model and it just fits into the overhead compartment. i'm not sure if there is any major difference in size between the incourage vest and the hillrom vest but from what others have said it doesn't sound like its too different in size.

my vest bag doesn't have wheels on it so if i'm traveling alone with the vest i usually strap it onto a little rolling luggage trolley thingy. -not sure that made sense but they are the two wheeled little metal luggage carriers that you can buy separately.

happy travels!

I would never - ever - check a vest. They are too hard/expensive to replace, and no, I wouldn't count on getting the airline to buy a new one for you.

My daughter has flown with her Hill-Rom numerous times - she does not use their bag, but rather uses a rolling luggage bag that fits both the machine and her compressor for neb treatments...she packs all of her clothes around it for padding. And, yes as others have said ...if it's medical equipment it doesn't count towards your total carry on bag number.

My son has a Respirtech - you are correct, that is a big bag! He has never flown with it - good to hear that it does fit in carry on.

My daughter had one experience that the plane was too small and there were NO overhead bins at all! They took her bag when she boarded and she stressed how fragile it was... it turned out ok, no damage but boy oh boy I don't think I'd want to take that chance again - I searched online about that flight and plane and nowhere was there any mention of no overhead bins! Thankfully though it was put in a different compartment than regular checked bags so I think that helped.

We have the incourage system too. We just got back from a trip and took it on the plane. It is too big for the overhead so they put it in a closet in the front of the plane, I think it is where the pilot's luggage goes! They were very accomodating when we told them it was a $12,000 piece of medical equipment for our daughters. The flight attendant also told us to tell the gate attendant when you arrive at the gate that you have an oversized piece of medical equipment that you need to carry on board. That way that person can notify the flight attendants before boarding time and they can make space for the bag on the plane.
