I prefer the cool mist if I need it. Cool is easier for breathing for me.
I know there is much controversy on humidifiers in general, but I would think that warm mist are at greater risk for yuckies growing.
Obviously either one needs to be well maintained & clean, but warm breeds bacteria.

The also make one with the antibacterial stuff that is in the plastic that the humidifier is made of- I think Hunter makes it, and it is at Walmart. I have it (but am vesting right now, so I can't check the name, <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">, but if that's wrong I'll come back and correct it). It is still kinda loud, but I haven't managed to find a quiet one yet! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> . I figure every little bit helps, right? And I *think* you can add the antibacterial solution for humidifiers to this one (the ultrasonics you can't add anything to but the "ball" for minerals, but boy are they quiet!), and maybe even some kind of anti mineral deposit thing to it (I don't remember if it is the "ball" or the solution, sorry).
