Hungry and have a stiff neck

I have some sort of virus right now where I am coughing alot and can't keep anything down. I am doing 3-4 treatments daily and drinking lots of liquids.
I have a stiff neck for some reason and when I cough, my neck really hurts. I am putting a heating pad on my neck and taking advil. Is there anything else I can do to relive my stiff neck?
Also, since I can't keep anything down, what foods do you recommend that I can keep in my tummy? I am hungry all the time and I have CFRD.
This is the first full day of Cypro and the doc said that if i don't feel better then I have to go fo a tune up.
Thanks for your help!

Hey there,

For the neck pain I think a massage or have someone rub your neck - like a friend or family member. Also there are relaxation exercises you can do -

If you lie flat with a small pillow under your head.
Place your left wrist/hand on your forehead (palm up) - try to relax your arm in that position for 2 minutes. Then do the same thing with the other side.

Lie flat on your back (same position) with pillow under your head.
Place your left hand above your head with your left arm/elbow bent out to the side. Should almost be like you would raise your arm/hand and then bend it slightly to where your hand is directly over your head.
Tilt your head/neck towards your arm (so to the left for the left arm to the right for the right arm). Try to relax and stay relaxed for 2 minutes at least.
Then repeat with the right side.

If it is done properly it helps alot to releive the tension. I had a physical therapist show me these exercises and he said it helped to "relax the pain away" It takes several times to really feel a difference, but it does help temporarily. The longer I held the positions the better the muscle felt.

I hope those help you somewhat.

As for what to eat. Whenever I had a hard time with excess coughing cold things helped me. Popsicles, Ice Cream bars, those frozen fruit bars. Also soup like chicken noodle or broth. Something to soothe the throat a bit - be careful if you have soup with crackers. For whatever reason the crackers always made me cough more when I was sick - I guess cause they kind of tickled the back of my throat.

Bananas helped me somewhat too - firmer food that didn't shread (like crackers) or flake off when I chewed and ate them. I guess is the point. Try eating smaller meals too if you are coughing alot. The less you eat the less likely you will probably be to vomit if you cough really hard. When I was really full and coughing it also induced vomiting a LOT faster because I would be so stuffed the food would already be crammed in my stomach - one wrong cough or muscle spasm sent everything into a frenzy.

Hope the Cipro helps and you can avoid the tune up - but either way I just hope you start feeling better soon.
