As of right now the storm is supposed to head right up the center of the state and cut back out to the ocean by Friday or late Thursday. I am watching it closely too, Kurt and I were supposed to be heading to Orlando tonight. We live in northeast Florida - right at the end of the projected path through Florida.

Is your lady visiting Walt Disney World - or is she there for some other reason? My reason for asking is I would not be overly worried if she is staying on Disney property within Orlando. Disney is the best when it comes to handling hurricanes and making sure their facilities stay up and running - if the power were to go out or anything Disney would have theirs back on first.

I know in 2004 when those 3 hurricanes came through the center of the state. Everything through Orlando was closed for a few days - except Disney. Everything had lost power for a few days - except for Disney and Disney property (i.e. hotels, stores, parks).

If your girlfriend/woman is worried and she is not staying on Disney property - she could try calling and getting a room for a night or two. I am assuming she would be staying in Orlando through the storm. The number for reservations is
1-(407)939-6244. There are value resorts that are often the same price as it would cost to stay off property ($59 a night on occasion) it usually depends on the time of year. It is an option though if she is needing a different place to stay.

Hope she is safe - I am sure she will be okay. Most likely she will see mainly extremely heavy rains and wind nothing too terribly out of control. That is assuming it stays Cat. 1 or so before reaching South FL.

she is there with her son.. (2 year old). yes they are going to be staying right next to walt disney,(unfortunatly not in there from what you have said) she said to me she rented an appartment for 2 weeks near there. thanks for the reply i am just a bit worried incase something happenes to her and her son. i am going to give her mum a call later. i might just worry to much but i really cant help it...i have been with her for 7 months now and i dont no what i would do if something happened to her, she was so scared even to fly over there with everything that has been going on... i have basically been glued to a computer and checking it every now and then to check the news bulletins.... like i say i am just a little worried....

thanks smoothdave.

I can understand being worried. I live 2-3 hours from Orlando and I am thinking of not going .. just so I don't get stuck in the weather. Kurt still wants to go and the thought of him going without me makes me sick - being in the weather meaning. Not that I could do anything if I were there lol.

I don't know if it is any consolation at this point, but I will say it anyway. The way the storm is supposed to travel will give it plenty of time on land to weaken before it gets to Orlando. That is by all accounts of what I have seen today/this morning on the news. Like I said there will be some heavy rain probably and some wind but nothing like Hurricane Katrina - I don't want you to fear that. This storm is not that strong as of right now and Orlando is far enough inland to be free of major flooding from the Ocean or the Gulf. IF there were to be any flooding it would be from rain and would most likely not be standing for days/weeks what have you.

I hope you get in touch with her and are able to put yourself at ease a bit, though I can understand your concerns.

I live near the hurrican path also. I will probably not be online too much for the next few days. No worries for me, my husband is all prepared.

Smooth Dave I am sure she will call soon. Take care of yourself.

Just to update you Dave. As of the last report I saw the path of Tropical Storm Ernesto has changed slightly. They are showing it as possibly leaving the state of Florida by the time it reaches the Central Florida area - versus when I spoke with you earlier and it was set to go straight up the center of Florida. That would mean that some of the outer Western portions of the storm would effect Orlando with rains and some wind, but with the path they showed on the last news report it does NOT look like Orlando will be hit directly by the storm. That is good news for your girlfriend <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">.

I just wanted to update you because we are going to be gone until Thursday and I didn't know if you had seen anything updated or not. I hope you have been able to reach your girlfriend.

Take Care,
Lindsey

We have some friends who live in Orlando and they're not too worried at this point about the storm. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything else from them.

The storm headed west. We got some rain but that was it. We put up hurricane shutters and now our house is dark lol. Hopefully today my husband after work will remove them.

Hey there,
We just got back from Orlando tonight. We headed down Monday evening and were there through this afternoon. The weather was surprisingly mild. It was overcast Wednesday and did not start to rain until about 3:30pm or so. It rained tough the rest of the night, but nothing more than the average rain storm.

Tuesday and Today were very warm with little to no rain at all.

The weather that your girlfriend had to endure was very slight I am sure. It was actually better than typical Florida storm weather - at least in Orlando around Walt Disney World.
