husband scared for a second baby

Hello everyone. I was just wondering if anyone else's husband had/has reservations about having a second baby. We had our first little girl 12/31/08. Everything went great with that pregnancy, I remained healthy and she was perfectly healthy as well. My husband and I always talked about 2 kids, but he is hesitant now about a second.

He seems to think that just because the first time went so wonderful, that something would almost have to go wrong with the second. I just recently had my first sinus surgery which I think is throwing him off a bit and scaring him.

I just wanted to hear some stories regarding second pregnancies compared with your first. My obgyn told me that the second pregnancy should go just as smoothly as the first. Did you guys find this to be true?
Thanks!

I don't blame him for being scared. CF is genetic, so it is possible your kids could be born with it as well. I've always wondered what the percentage of chance is though.

He has been tested and is not a carrier for CF. So our kids will be carriers, but won't have it.

Hi kelly

I knew we would have 2 kids but I was the one who was a bit scared about getting pregnant the 2nd time. Not really of the outcome but just because I had a little one now and didn't want to end up with "normal" pregnancy complications and end up hospitalized away from him. But I decided that fear couldn't rule my life so we did get pregnant again. Everything went off without a hitch and I even had a home birth instead of a hospital birth with my 2nd. I did wait till my son was over 2.5 to have another which I think helped tremendously. They're exactly 3.5 years apart. As long as you are healthy and keep up with your treatments and meds, the chances of a successful pregnancy and birth are really good!

gypsyofmars - as long as the partner of someone w/ CF is tested negative for being a carrier (with a full panel sequencing - not the standard carrier screening test) , the likelihood of their offspring having CF is basically non existant. Of course their are the exceptions (like a new novel mutations cropping up) but it isn't something any of us who had our partners screened are scared about.

Good luck with whatever you guys decide. I cried for a whole day after my daughter was born because she is our last. I wanted to be pregnant and give birth again! I don't necessarily want another child, just another great experience (and I do love the tiny baby stage).
